Here’s some pics of my finished Spitfire!

This time I’ve used an editor to change the white balance. Hopefully it looks a bit better.
Enjoy! π
and other artistic stuff
With all the decals done and a clear cote to seal them, I could start with the weathering.
So I used black oil colour and some white spirit to give panel lines a wash.
Then I let it sit for a few hours before I started wiping off the excess with cotton buds and some white spirit (where needed).
I then did some painting with aluminium to create a little wear on wings and prop blades.
Black oil colour was again used, but this time to create some dirt and grime like sooth from the shell ejection holes and some general grime.
I also added sooth from the exhaust pipes, removed the masking from the canopy and added the mirror and painted it. And with that I think I’ll call it finished, and will take proper pics later today.
The pilot was finished and some seams taken care of.
Then the pilot was put in place, which meant I had to carefully remove the front glass, as I couldn’t slip the pilot in as intended.
Then the underside was painted.
I have a roll of semi clear masking film that I wanted to try. The wings was fairly easy and part of the body, but I ended up resorting to blue tac and tape for the rest of the camo.
I think I’ve rushed the build a bit in an attempt to finish in time, so maybe the paint was too fresh. The masking film and tape removed parts of the paint.
Hard to see the flaws in the sun shiny pic but had to sort some of it with some freehand painting.
The the wings was masked and a yellow field painted on the front ledge.
I’ll check if more touching up is needed, and then put on a cote of varnish, before applying decals.
The last three decals went on and then all the missing small parts.
Here’s a pic with the cabriolet roof in place.
The head light glasses are glued with white glue that hasn’t fully dried yet. I also noticed that the BMW logos hade moved on the rim hubs.
I used a little micro set to solve that problem. I think a small drop of varnish will help keep them in place.
I think I’ll check for touch ups needed and I’ll also try my new polishing compound on it.
Hopefully it’ll make it a bit shinier! π
I’ll take pics for the final reveal soon.
This was the last one according to the seller, and with permission from my mistress, I was allowed to buy it.
It took a while to arrive, but that was my own doing, which is corrected now.
1/18 will make it quite large, and here’s a sneak peak of the contents.
It sure would be nice to build it, but I need to clear some other builds first, and also the work space.
As part of the easter holiday I participated in 2 holiday group builds. Build anything, hopefully within the holiday and have fun.
I picked this kit as my entry.
As usual on most planes it starts with the interior.
First some British interior green.
IP and details was painted and the interior was given a wash.
I assembled the wings and painted the prop and spinner.
I solved the problem with having the prop sitting on the plane while working with it, and glued the fuselage.
After sorting the body seams, I glued the wings and then some other parts as well.
The canopy parts was masked.
The landing gears was paint and also some other parts.
I started painting the pilot.
The canopy was glued in place.
Tires was painted and a few other small parts was sorted for future assembly.
Flaps and canopy was painted with interior green.
After a while I could paint primer over the seams. I also practiced painting squiggles.
I need to take care of some seams before painting the camo.
I got a call from my son telling me there was a box on my door step. Luckily I was already on my way home. And indeed there was a quite large box outside the door, the lid slightly ajar, revealing the models inside.
After a few calls, I was told that the models was leftovers from an estate, and the friend of my son knew that I build models and brought them to me. Very kind and thoughtful, and I’m very happy and grateful for them.
Here’s what I got!
Quite a nice stash to get like that, out of the blue! π
