Here’s some pics of my finished BMW 507!

I’m quite happy with how the build turned out! One of my best car builds to this date! 🙂
and other artistic stuff
The last three decals went on and then all the missing small parts.
Here’s a pic with the cabriolet roof in place.
The head light glasses are glued with white glue that hasn’t fully dried yet. I also noticed that the BMW logos hade moved on the rim hubs.
I used a little micro set to solve that problem. I think a small drop of varnish will help keep them in place.
I think I’ll check for touch ups needed and I’ll also try my new polishing compound on it.
Hopefully it’ll make it a bit shinier! 🙂
I’ll take pics for the final reveal soon.
I cast a copy of the steering hub axle part. Not entirely perfect, but with some work it became usable.
The instrument panel got some decals.
The steering system was assembled.
I accidently fastened the steering in a fixed position, and to reflect that I glued the steering wheel in a turned position.
The tires was assembled.
The instructions says the brake plates should be glued to the rims, but that would prevent the wheels from rotating. So I glued the plates to the axles instead.
Then the wheels was glued in place.
And then the instrument panel, completing the interior.
The hood and body got a clear cote.
My intention was to do one more clear cote, but my curiosity had me trying the body on the chassie. As it turned out, it wasn’t all that easy to just slip it on. So to avoid breaking anything, I decided to let it sit where it was.
I then started adding parts for the final assembly.
A few more parts to sort and add. Then there’s some decals and glass parts that needs to get on, as well as license plates. Then it will be finished.
The inside of the body got some primer as well.
Then I painted some aluminum inside.
Then it was time to do the same on the outside. I first had to set it up on another piece of styrofoam, just to better reach lower areas of the body.
Jag fick dessvärre lite väl blöt färg på ena sidan.
I got a little too much paint on the door which created runnings. Barely visible on the pic, but still there and needs to be sorted somehow. Possibly by sanding/polishing after it has cured properly. I hope I can make it look good and also give it a clear cote without messing up.
I also painted the inner rims, including the one I got printed for me.
The printed one doesn’t look very nice, but with the brake plates on, it looks ok.
I think it will look ok and it will not be very visible once I got it on the shelf!
I bought this kit 2nd hand quite a few years ago, and the main reason for building it, is to test some kind of silver metallic as body colour.
This is what it looked like when I started.
The engine got some more parts.
To be able to test colours, the hood got some primer.
I decided to have a black leather/vinyl interior.
Then I masked parts of the interior and painted the engine room with steel.
Perhaps not very visible in the pic, but the ejection pin marks, I thought I had scraped away, was still visible. Time to sort that!
Time for some more primer.
I should have masked the interior better, so now I had to redo it, after painting over the red with flat black.
It turned out the body had some mold line and other flaws to take care of, and the hood and underside of the chassie got some steel paint.
Then the engine room was painted again.
After sorting the flaws, the body got some more primer.
I wasn’t happy with the steel colour, partly because I had problems painting it good enough on the topside. I’ve also had problems with Vallejos primer.
Anyway I decided to use Vallejos new metal colours. I tried aluminum on the hood.
I changed to medium grey and gave the body a cote.
The outer rims was painted aluminum.
The exhaust pipes was painted with brass.
Some parts was painted black and the mufflers was painted with gun metal.
I’ve also assembled engine, transmission and exhaust system.
Two problems have arised during this build. 2 parts are missing and I should have checked better, but as my my intention was to test body colour, my check wasn’t as thorough as it should have been.
I’ve asked for help, and possibly a friend of my son can print the parts on his 3D printer. I’ll see how that goes. Possibly I can make one of them myself if I can get the plastic material needed.
I’ll build and paint as much as I can, and hopefully the parts will be sorted so I can continue.
