Bf110E trop – update

I’ve painted the propeller blades, spinners and engine nacelles.

I’ve also done some filling and sanding, and assembled the tail and nose. In the pic I’ve also test fitted the nacelles.

Lastly I’ve started doing some work with the fuel tanks and bombs. Not sure which loadout to use.

Still have things like landing gear and other details to paint, and a large canopy to mask, but I’m getting closer to paint.

New build, Bf110E trop in 1/72 by Airfix.

As a member of the groupbuild group on facebook, I decided to join their latest groupbuild called all things Airfix. Meaning that any kit produced or boxed by Airfix could be built.
Which means that the variation could be rather big.
My contribution will be the Bf110E trop in 72nd scale.

I started with the cockpit, as usual on many plane models, and painted the interior in RLM66.

I also started painting the figures.

Then I did some assembly and painted the main wheel wells in RLM02.

I added the instrument decal, which is barely visible in this pic. I afterwards realised that I should have painted the panel in a lighter grey colour, which would have made the instruments more visible.

As I needed putty and new brushes for this and coming builds, I ordered some Mr White putty in two different versions.

And the brushes I got in my local hobby shop.

I haven’t tried the brushes yet, but will as soon as I continue painting the figures.

Fitting the cockpit into the fuselage halves took some time, and required sanding and checking. Luckily I checked the fit of the bottom wing half. I had to sand the bottom of the cockpit down a bit to get a smooth transition between body and underside of the wing section.

Once enough material was sanded down, the wings fitted quite well.

The upper wing halves was quite easy to get in place and the fit was very good.

Lastly I testfitted the coolers. Looks nice, I think and only need some painting before I can glue them in place.

Next up is the the tailplane and the nose with its guns and hopefully I’ll managed to paint the pilots, so I can fit them before adding the canopy.
